UDZUNGWA NP, MOROGORO – 17 October 2012 – Hondo Hondo Udzungwa Forest Lodge today announced that it has received a TripAdvisor® Certificate of Excellence award.

About Hondo Hondo Udzungwa Forest Tented Camp

Hondo Hondo Udzungwa Forest Lodge borders the Udzungwa Mountains National Park, a unique destination on Tanzania's southern circuit. The camp is known locally as Hondo Hondo meaning "hornbill" in Swahili, due to the amazing number of these remarkable birds that can be seen daily from the camp.

The lodge provides a high standard of accommodation across all budgets and offers great access to one of Tanzania's most remarkable parks, wildlife and landscape. An amazing example of a true 'eco-lodge' operating with very thorough international responsible tourism standards.

Built by a local workforce and providing employment throughout both the construction and operational phases, the ultimate goal is to increase international awareness of the Udzungwa Mountains National Park, bringing in more visitors to appreciate the remarkable diversity of wildlife here and to contribute to the improvement of local community livelihoods.
A variety of accommodation is available. Six ensuite tented rooms are nestled in the forest edge or offering views up into the canopy, each with solar heated rain showers. The lodge also offers five authentic thatched huts with simple but comfy furnishings. There is a pretty campsite with western toilets and solar hot-water rain showers. Camping equipment is available for hire and expeditions into the park can also be arranged.
A variety of activities are on offer, including hiking in the National Park, mountain bike hire, canoeing and local community/educational visits. Specialist guiding (eg. for bird-watchers) can be arranged in advance.

Hondo Hondo's extensive green grounds are on the border of the pristine rainforest and offer excellent views of the forest canopy. The forest is home to numerous primate species, including the endemic Udzungwa Red Colobus, Sanje Crested Mangebey, and the Black and White Colobus, which can usually be seen from the bar. At night it is possible to hear the calls of the lesser and greater bushbabies.
